A really bad movie is a work of art, like Plan 9 From Outer space Or Manosmovies so bad watching them is considered an experience that every movie buff must have at least once. You can’t fully appreciate great films without knowing how bad things can get when a director’s vision exceeds his budget. The greatest modern example of these films is Geostormthe absurd sci-fi disaster movie starring Gerard Butler that makes no sense when you explain it let alone try to watch it, but it has become an ironic cult classic.

Gérard Butler, scientist

Gerard Butler goes to space Geostorm

For starters, Butler plays Jake Lawson, a satellite designer whose name might as well be “Good Guy,” who was brought back on board the project he was started on three years earlier to figure out what’s wrong with it. a weather system. -control the satellites. The satellites are able to freeze a village in the desert and set off fire tornadoes in Hong Kong in a sequence that looks astonishing, but comes off as a screensaver. Even the mystery of what’s happening Geostorm is barely interesting on the surface, with Jake immediately suspecting that a member of the satellite crew is a traitor.

He’s right, of course, and while you watch Geostormyou’ll learn that Jake is never wrong, right down to identifying exactly the key American official responsible for all this mess. To witness the poor quality of the film, in the best possible way, even you can decipher the plot by looking at the cast list. That and the solution to a rogue satellite network is to knock satellites out of orbit using other satellites as weapons, and at least that sounds as ridiculous as it sounds.

Geostorm is both a movie that moves at a mile a minute, with something happening all the time, and yet, thanks to some of the worst dialogue of the modern era and incredibly inconsistent pacing, we also get the feeling like nothing is happening. When the geostorm finally hits, it’s in bland scenes of mass destruction that carry less weight than the characters orbiting the weightless plant. And yet, you have to see this film to truly understand what an incredible failure the entire project was.

The best B movie in years

The cast is rich, from Butler to Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris, Andy Garcia, the always underrated Mare Winningham, Zazie Beetz and In the Badlands star Daniel Wu. Behind the camera, Dean Devlin, the man behind fun adventure shows Librarians And Leverage makes his directorial debut and he tries hard. In fact, you can say that everyone is giving their all for Geostormchewing the scenery and delivering the most insane techno chatter with a straight face, it’s this passion and visible effort that makes this a true B-movie classic.

Geostorm is the most boring sci-fi disaster movie ever made, and in a way, it’s also the best because it’s so big, brash, and trying so hard. There are better movies out there, thousands, maybe a million, but very few movies manage to hit that sweet spot that makes for perfect viewing with friends while you all scream at the screen. You should never, ever watch this movie alone, because then the horror hits you full force, but with friends doing your best Mystery Science Theater, this is the best movie of the last ten years.

Better yet, Geostorm is now streaming on Tubi, so you don’t even have to pay to watch it.
