Lara Trump withdraws her name from candidacy for Florida Senate seat

Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of US President-elect Donald Trump, has withdrawn her name from consideration for a Senate seat.

She resigned this month as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), fueling speculation that she could replace outgoing Sen. Marco Rubio, a Florida Republican, whom Trump nominated to be secretary of state. .

But in an article on X, she said she had withdrawn from consideration “after an incredible amount of reflection, contemplation and encouragement from so many people”.

She said she wished Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis luck in choosing a replacement for the remainder of Rubio’s six-year term, which ends in 2026.
