Place Aubreymarriage to the deceased Jeff brothers reportedly rubbed some of his most fervent and intense fans the wrong way.
“Oh my God. Jeff got death threats in his DMs,” Plaza, 40, said. Cosmopolitan in a 2022 profile, referencing several of his bisexual fans mourning his celibacy on social media. “I think so. People project so much into marriage, but it wasn’t a big statement that I’m trying to make and I want everyone to respond to it.
Plaza and Baena were together from 2011 until his sudden and untimely death in January 2025. To celebrate their 10th relationship anniversary, the couple married in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.
“A lot has happened for me during COVID. Yes, we got married. Big deal,” Plaza recalled during a December 2021 appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. “We were a little bored one evening. We got married and I’ll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. It’s real, look it up.
She added at the time: “We were in lockdown. Things have gotten a little crazy, especially at my house. My husband got really into tie-dye and when I say tie-dye, I mean 50 shirts a day.
Plaza and Baena were married at home in what she described as a witchcraft affair.
“I very quickly created an altar of love in our yard. Made of our love, small stones, smoke, fire. Things of that nature,” she told host Ellen DeGeneres. “Then the man from Alhambra showed up in a Hawaiian shirt with a briefcase (to celebrate the ceremony). …I don’t I don’t remember much about it, it was blurry but I’m pretty sure it’s legal.
By speaking with CosmosPlaza further detailed the spooky ceremony and her penchant for haunting content.
“I’ve always loved Halloween. There was always a witchy vibe in Delaware where I grew up and my mother was always a witch. I don’t know how to explain it. It runs in our blood,” she joked. “I have Basque blood – like many of the witches who were burned alive during European witch trials. My mother always made me believe in magic. Not like rabbit-out-of-a-hat magic – it just always operated on a different wavelength.
She added: “Also, in middle school, I would go with friends into the woods and do weird spells and weird stuff. At some point I got really interested in herbs, mushrooms, oils, and other more pagan things. It became less ‘I’m doing a spell to harness the power of the wind’ and more ‘I’m using these herbs for medicinal purposes’ or something like that.
